mixed media & photo editing !!
heart n soul ღThis was originally something I was playing around with that I didn't expect to like that much. But the pictures that I took of myself on my DSLR were taken for an instagram post.. Just for fun. I took a letter that was recently written to me and scanned it, and then put the pictures I took of myself over the scan. There wasn't really a goal I was trying to reach, but as I started to erase the edges of the images to get rid of the harsh lines and corners, it slightly started looking a little bit like water color with the image slowly fading out on the edges, so I went along with that look. I realized after, that the pictures of myself, and the scan actually had a lot in common and had a lot of correlation to each other, so I chose to make this piece a representation of friendship and appreciation. This piece is mainly focused on me, I used things that represent my friendships and things that make me think of my friendships and some ways I like to be appreciated and acknowledged. Pouring your heart out about someone you care about on a piece of paper with a pen is something that I personally think has so much sentimental value and also allows us to communicate the things we admire in our friendships, which I really love knowing and keeping in mind. But this is one of my digital mixed media pieces ! |
the words we exchange.Breakdown of what's going on !
Idea: I wanted to use scans of Dyanne's driver's license picture that I had along with all of the differently edited versions I made I started with a scan of a really personal and sentimental journal entry that I wrote and sized/cropped it in photoshop. I decided that I wanted to use a literal heart, and put it over the scan of the journal entry, so I put it over the scan and used a blending tool to make it look more interesting. After this was where the mixed media came in. ( the hardest part) I printed out the journal entry with the heart (which took me two tries because I didn't realize until a lot later that the first one I printed was too small) and the ID pictures. I crumbled up the journal entry print and then cut out the heart and used washy tape to put it back into place. I then separated all of the ID pictures and stitched them back together with red thread, which took a while, so when I was done I crumbled it up, opened it back up, burnt the edges, and taped it onto the journal entry print. I taped a cute candy wrapper and styrofoam hearts that Dyanne gave me in my christmas gift to fill some of the negative spaces. Lastly, I used my scanner and put the matching necklace we have over the candy wrapper, and then opened photoshop to emphasize the textures, colors, and specific details I wanted to be more noticeable than the others. |
